Library Cards
Do I need a library card?
There are many library services that do not require a library card,
such as browsing, reading newspapers & magazines, and using the microfilm).
However, to be able to check out books, videos, and use the computers, you must have a library card.
How do I get a library card?
Library cards are free to residents of Noble County. Simply fill out an application at the circulation desk and provide proof of residency. Valid
forms of identification include a driver’s license, voter ID, tax statement, and/or current bill showing current address. Parents must apply
on behalf of children. "Children" are any library user who has not reached
his/her 18th birthday.
All fines must be paid before library cards will be issued.
If I am not a resident of Noble County may I get a library card?
A $10 fee (per card), a photo ID, and proof of residence is required of out-of-county customers when applying for a card.
After I apply for a card how long do I have to wait to get it?
There is typically a 3 day turnaround between the time you sign up and
the time your card is ready.
What if I lose my card?
The library card replacement fee is $3.00.
Checking Out Books and Materials
Must I have my library card with me to check out books?
Yes, our computer system identifies you by the bar code on your library card. You must present an up-to-date card in order to check out books,
materials, videos, and to use the computers.
When do I have to return the items I've checked out?
The check-out period for most materials is two (2) weeks. Videos have a two (2) day check-out time. Materials are due back before 6 p.m. on the due date.
How many books can I check out?
Customers are limited to four (4) books per card.
How many videos can I check out?
Videos may only be checked out on an adult card. The limit is three (3) videos per household.
What if I don't get the book or video returned on time?
Overdue books and materials are fined $.05 per day per item with a maximum fine of $2.50. The fine for overdue videos is $1.00 per day with a maximum fine
of $2.50. Persons with overdue items, fines, and/or damages will not be permitted to check out library materials until the amount owed is paid. No renewals
will be allowed on overdue materials until fines have been paid.
What happens if a book or material I've checked out gets damaged?
Damages to library materials will be assessed in the following manner: if completely destroyed or unusable, the replacement cost will be charged.
If materials are heavily damaged, one-half the replacement cost will be charged. If materials are slightly damaged, one-fourth the replacement cost, or a
minimum of $2.50 will be charged.
What if I lose a book or video?
If a book is designated lost, the replacement cost will be charged.
Using the Library's Computers and Internet
Do I need a library card to use the computers?
If you live in Noble County, we would like for you to have a card.
How long can I use a computer?
Computer users will be limited to one visit per day, not to exceed one hour in length.
Can I print from the library's computers?
Yes, the charge for prints is 25 cents and color prints are 75 cents per page.
I'm traveling through Perry. May I have internet access?
Yes, please check-in at the circulation desk for "guest" privileges.
